As a core hospital of Catholic spirituality implementation, we will maintain the 85-year tradition and will continue responding to medical environment changes in the future.
The Catholic University of Korea Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital is endeavoring to practice the love of Jesus Christ, the healer, by taking the lead in the holistic treatment and medical service for neighbors suffering from diseases through the spirit of implementing the Catholic doctrine. In addition, we have played a leading role in the development of the domestic medical industry through cultivating excellent medical personnel and advanced medical research activities.
As a part of commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Joseon Diocese founding, the Maintenance Foundation of Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul bought Murakami Hospital located at 39 Beonji, 1 Jeongmok, Gyungseong-bu on March 11, 1935 and Saint Mary’s Hospital, the Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital predecessor, was opened with 24 beds on May 11, 1936. After that, on December 1, 1961, the latest 300-bed general hospital was completed in Myeong-dong. We opened the glorious Myeong-dong era by starting medical treatment in all clinical fields. Since then, we have been leading the medical industry in Korea with the first successful cornea transplantation, kidney transplantation, and allogeneic bone marrow transplantation in Korea.
Due to the change of environment in Myeong-dong, the St. Mary's Hospital, moved to Yeouido in July 1986, established the Catholic Bone Marrow Transplant Center, expanded and renovated the largest Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Center in Asia, opened the first Hospice Department in Korea, and we continued keeping the reputation of being the best medical institution in Korea. In 2015, the One Hospital System in which Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital and Seoul St. Mary's Hospital become one hospital was introduced. We proposed the first integrated operation model of secondary & tertiary hospitals in Korea, leaving a mark on the history of the domestic medical community.
We are being reborn as a core hospital of implementing Catholic spirituality.
Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital has established a comprehensive system to provide optimal medical treatment based on Catholic spirituality for diseases occurring from the beginning to the end of life. [Catholic Maternity and Neonatal Intensive Care Center, NaPro Fertility Care Center (planned), Integrated Pain Center, Dementia Cognitive Function Center (planned), and the Hospice Palliative Care Center] Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital, the predecessor of Catholic medical institutions and the center of the domestic medical mission, is a key spiritual realization hospital, and we are facing the great challenge being born as a patient-centered futuristic hospital.
Based on spirituality, we are leaping to become a patient-centered futuristic hospital.
Spirituality is the unique value of Catholic medical institutions that cannot be found in other hospitals. By providing spiritual value to patients and their families who visit our hospitals, we will maintain the 80-year old tradition as a core hospital of Catholic spirituality implementation, and will respond to medical environment changes in the future.
A New Milestone in Korean Medical Community - One Hospital System
Now, we are preparing a new milestone as a hospital representing the medical community of Korea and the primary shoot of the Catholic Medical Center in Korea. Yeouido St. Mary's Hospital and Seoul St. Mary's Hospital began their history as a unified hospital through the One Hospital System to go beyond hospitals that simply have superior "medical technologies" and to make a leap forward as hospitals equipped with differentiated medical systems. As a Catholic medical institution that protects the health and lives of people around the world, the hospital fulfills its calling, transforming itself into a hospital that provides more safe and harmonious value by breaking the framework of existing medical services. I am requesting your continued interest, encouragement and prayer for this transcendental change of St. Mary's Hospital.
As we have pioneered and presented the direction of Catholic medical institutions in the love and care of God for the last 80 years, we have embraced the blueprint of "patient-centered futuristic hospital" with "together we are precious" in the age of integration, and we will continuously go forward with the blueprint. I thank you for your interest and warm affection.
